BEIJING -- An article by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on improving the people's wellbeing will be published on Thursday.

The article by Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will be published in this year's 19th issue of the Qiushi Journal, a flagship magazine of the CPC Central Committee.

The article is a collection of excerpts of Xi's important discourses on the issue between November 2012 and January 2026.

It says that the people's wellbeing must always come first in Chinese modernization, adding that it is important to ensure and improve the people's wellbeing in the course of development.

Highlighting a people-centered philosophy, the article urges efforts to ensure that public services are inclusive, meet essential needs and provide a cushion for those most in need.

It also calls for better, more balanced and accessible public services to make solid progress toward common prosperity.

Continued headway should be made in improving people's access to childcare, education, employment, medical services, elderly care, housing and social assistance, the article says.

Efforts should continue to promote social fairness and justice so that the people will have a more robust, solid, and sustainable sense of fulfillment, happiness and security, it adds.

At the same time, efforts to ensure and improve the people's wellbeing should be based on economic development and fiscal sustainability, the article says.

It is essential to integrate economic development with improvements in the people's wellbeing to ensure they reinforce each other, it adds.
