Poster: Six Steeds of Zhao Mausoleum
The Six Steeds of Zhao Mausoleum are six bluestone reliefs of horses created for the Mausoleum of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty (618-907), each depicting a precious war steed that accompanied the emperor during his early campaigns to reunify the country. These sculptures were originally located at the Zhao Mausoleum in today's Xianyang City, Shaanxi Province. Now, four reliefs are housed in the Xi'an Beilin Museum, and the other two are at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in the US. The horses, shown either walking, galloping or standing, exude a vibrant vitality even on the cold stone surface, embodying a spirit of vigor, ambition, and pioneering progress.
