The Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century BC) was China’s second dynasty, following the Xia Dynasty (c.21st century-16th century BC), and lasting over 500 years. It played a crucial role in the early formation of Chinese civilization and the establishment of the country. At the Grand Canal Museum of Beijing (Capital Museum East Branch), the “Exhibition Series on the Origins of Chinese Civilization: This is the Shang” is attracting large crowds of visitors. It features 344 precious cultural relics (in pieces or sets) from 29 archaeological and cultural institutions nationwide. The exhibits include a wide range of objects such as oracle bones, bronze wares, pottery, and jade artifacts, shedding light on the profound influence of the Shang Dynasty’s script, rituals, and technology on the continuity of Chinese civilization, while painting a vivid portrait of Shang civilization.
