Unity for Strength and Hard Work for a Bright Future*

Over the past hundred years, the CPC has secured historic achievements on behalf of the Chinese people. Today, it is rallying the people and leading them on a new journey towards the Second Centenary Goal.

All that the Party and the people have achieved over the past century derives from unity of effort, which is the most distinctive tradition of the CPC and the Chinese people. The Party’s century-long history has shown that unity means strength and that hard work leads to a bright future. Unity of effort is what a nation relies on to build its future and what a political party counts on to remain resolute. Our century-long history has also revealed that unity under a clear goal is the strongest and that endeavor based on complete unity is the most powerful.

We have relied on unity of effort to create a glorious history, and we will continue to do so to shape a bright future. As long as more than 1.4 billion Chinese people join forces and work together for a shared future, as long as over 95 million Party members stay truly connected with the people and strive together with them for a shared future, we will be certain to achieve even greater successes that continue to astonish the world.

Working for the good of the public is the greatest joy in the world. We have the people in our heart and the truth on our side, and we are marching on the right track – this is what makes us strong and confident. No matter how the world changes, no matter what daunting challenges lie ahead, we will always carry forward the Party’s great founding spirit, while bearing in mind the wisdom of our forebears that “one prospers in hardship and adversity, and perishes in ease and comfort”.

We must see things from a long-term and strategic perspective and remain mindful of potential dangers. We must unite as one and work relentlessly to advance our historic mission of national rejuvenation.

The best way to celebrate our century-long history is to write a new page for the future. In the second half of this year, our Party will convene its 20th National Congress to review its work over the past five years and draw up a blueprint for future development. In the run-up to the congress and beyond, we must take a holistic approach to imperatives at home and abroad, and implement the Five-sphere Integrated Plan and the Four-pronged Comprehensive Strategy. We must balance development with security, and the Covid-19 response with economic and social development.

Under the general principle of pursuing progress while securing stability, we must apply our new development philosophy in full, to the letter and in all fields, and move faster to create a new development dynamic. We must expand reform and opening up across the board, promote high-quality development, and continue to ensure and improve the people’s wellbeing.

By all these means, we will strive to maintain a stable and healthy economy, a prosperous and peaceful society, and a clean and wholesome political environment. We must deliver new achievements to usher in the 20th CPC National Congress.
