In July 2019, at the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee, the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Liangzhu site is one of the four major ancient capital ruins in China's project to trace the origins of the Chinese civilization. It provides abundant critical archaeological data that bolsters China's definition and criteria for civilization.
