RIYADH -- China supports the Comoros in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs, and stands ready to work closely with the Comoros to firmly support each other, and safeguard the common interests of developing countries and international fairness and justice, Chinese President Xi Jinping said here on Friday.

China attaches great importance to growing its relations with the Comoros and is willing to be a good friend and partner of the Comoros that trusts each other on the road to national development and revitalization, Xi said while meeting with his Comorian counterpart, Azali Assoumani.

China appreciates the Comoros' long-term and firm support on issues related to China's core interests and major concerns, and will continue to support the Comoros in safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, achieving economic and social development and improving people's wellbeing, Xi said.

Xi pointed out that China is willing to step up friendly exchanges with the Comoros in all respects and at all levels, deepen the synergy between the implementation of the outcomes of the China-Arab States Cooperation Forum and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the Comoros' strategy of Emerging Comoros Plan for 2030, and strengthen cooperation in such fields as infrastructure, medical and health care, and marine economy.China, Xi added, encourages competent Chinese companies to invest in the Comoros and hopes that the Comorian side will make good use of platforms such as the China International Import Expo and the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo so that more Comorian products can find their way into the Chinese market.

Noting that the Comoros and China enjoy traditional friendly relations, the Comorian president said since the day the Comoros proclaimed its independence, China has always stood shoulder to shoulder with the country and provided selfless help in its most difficult times.

The important infrastructure projects built with China's help as well as the anti-pandemic materials and vaccines China has provided have greatly benefited the Comorian people, he said.

No matter what challenges China will face in the future, the Comoros will continue to stand firmly with China, said the president, adding that the Comoros supports China's complete reunification and all proposals put forward by the Chinese side to maintain world peace and development, and is willing to work with China to support multilateralism.
