The Party's Self-Reform—the Second Answer to How to Escape the Historical Cycle of Rise and Fall

The article by Qu Qingshan, President of the Institute of Party History and Literature of the CPC Central Committee, was published in the 24th issue of Qiushi Journal in 2024. It studies and expounds upon General Secretary Xi Jinping's statements on the Party's self-reform.

It notes that since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, Xi Jinping has, with great historical initiative, tremendous political courage, and a strong sense of mission, established Xi Jinping thought on the Party's self-reform in the endeavor to lead the whole Party in exercising full and rigorous Party self-governance.

This thought summarizes the CPC's historical experience in exercising its full and rigorous self-governance since 1921, especially in the new era. It expounds on the party's self-reform—the second answer to how to escape the historical cycle of rise and fall by providing solutions to crucial questions such as why our Party needs to conduct self-reform, why it is able to do so, and how to advance self-reform. As an integral part of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, this ideology serves as a powerful theoretical tool for our efforts to continue full and rigorous Party self-governance in the new era.

Xi Jinping thought on the Party's self-reform has opened up new frontiers in Marxist theory on party building. As an innovative theoretical achievement made by our Party through upholding "two integrations," this thought holds fast to the fundamentals while remaining steadfast in its pursuit of innovation.

Adhering to and applying the Marxist theory on party building, this thought seeks the truth from its origins, evolves through inheritance, and innovates while preserving its core fundamentals. A series of original concepts, ideas, and strategies incorporated in this thought have symbolized new heights the CPC has attained in its understanding of the laws that underlie governance by a communist party and the building of Marxist political parties.

Xi Jinping thought on the Party's self-reform has led the whole Party in ushering in a new phase of Party's self-governance. By drawing upon our Party's ongoing efforts in self-governance in the new era, this thought has, in turn, offered sound guidance and fundamental principles for further steps to exercise full and rigorous Party self-governance, in which strict discipline and effective implementation are of utmost importance.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping at its core has exercised full and rigorous Party self-governance with firm determination, steadfast will, and unprecedented intensity. By fostering an atmosphere of rigorous discipline and regulations within the Party, we have ensured that strict and coordinated steps are well taken and fully implemented.

On the new journey, we will continue to advance the Party's self-reform under Xi's guidance. We should keep in mind that exercising full and rigorous Party self-governance is a journey to which there is no end, so is the Party's self-reform. Xi has outlined precise demands on the Party's self-reform, which serve as a guide to action for advancing the Party's self-reform with clear objectives and well-conceived strategies. We should accurately grasp the essence of these demands while adhering to the spirit of reform and rigorous standards in conducting Party self-governance. Meanwhile, we should facilitate collaboration and synergy in our efforts to drive the deepening of Party self-governance.
