Yundang Lake: A Prime Example of Xiamen's Ecological Restoration
Yundang Lake, once a beautiful inner bay fishing port on Xiamen Island in East China's Fujian Province, suffered severe degradation in the 1970s due to the construction of dikes and land reclamation from the sea meant to increase grain production. Through a series of protection efforts by the Xiamen government, the lake has become an "urban green lung" and the "city's drawing room". The comprehensive revitalization of Yundang Lake has not only created beautiful ecological scenery for local people to enjoy, but also paved the way and provided valuable experience for eco-environmental conservation.
