Xi's speech on cultural inheritance, development to be published
BEIJING -- A speech delivered by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, at a meeting on cultural inheritance and development will be published on Friday.
The article by Xi, also Chinese president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, will be published in this year's 17th issue of the Qiushi Journal, a flagship magazine of the CPC Central Committee.
A comprehensive and profound understanding of the history of Chinese civilization is essential to promoting the creative transformation and development of fine traditional Chinese culture more effectively, and to developing modern Chinese civilization, the article says.
The article summarizes five prominent features regarding Chinese civilization -- continuity, innovativeness, unity, inclusiveness, and peaceful nature.
Integrating the basic tenets of Marxism with China's specific realities and fine traditional culture is the path that must be taken to explore and develop socialism with Chinese characteristics within the Chinese civilization, which has stretched for more than 5,000 years, the article says, adding that this integration is the most important tool for the Party to achieve its success.
The cultural missions in the new era are to further advance cultural prosperity, to build a leading country in culture and to foster the modern Chinese civilization, the article says.
To achieve these missions, it underscores the need to build stronger cultural confidence, stay committed to openness and inclusiveness, and uphold fundamental principles and break new ground.
