Jining counties recognized for excellent folk art

Zhaoyang sub-district in Weishan county, Jining is famous for duanguqiang, a kind of ballad singing that originated from the Weishan Lake area and spread later among fishermen in East China's Jiangsu province and Jiangxi province.
Wenshang county is the place of origin of Shandong bangzi, also known as wooden clapper opera. The county established a special institution to study and promote the art. Actors of the institution have performed more than 30,000 plays in many cities across China.

Yanzhou district in Jining is famous for its huagunwu, which can be translated as colorful sticks dance. The dance was introduced from East China's Anhui province between the late Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the early Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The district's government, as well as bureau of culture and tourism have been intensifying efforts to pass on the art and add modern elements to it.
