Shougang Park in western Beijing is the former plant of Chinese steelmaker Shougang. Built in 1919, the company remains a major player in China's industrial development and steel-making history.
When the company moved its production to the eastern coastal town of Caofeidian in neighboring Hebei province and started to focus on high-end products, its former plant in Beijing's Shijingshan district was earmarked for renovation. Once completed, the site will become China's first steel-culture-themed cultural park as well as a venue for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.
