In March 1949, the CPC Central Committee made the Fragrant Hills its headquarters for half a year. It marked the time when the Party led the Chinese People's War of Liberation and China's New-Democratic Revolution to a countrywide victory. The area is also know for its Shuangqing Villa, where late Chinese leader Mao Zedong once lived and worked after the Party's revolutionary base moved to Beijing from Xibaipo in Hebei province.
