Shandong Huabobo: An intangible heritage to eat during the Spring Festival

Huabobo, literally flour flower, refers to flower-shaped steamed buns. 

It is deeply loved by people in east China’s Shandong Province. 

This kind of steamed buns is made into various shapes and embellished with bright colors.

Now it’s much easier to make it by machine. 

From the 20th day of the 12th month in the lunar calendar, people will steam a large number of Huabobo. 

Huabobo not only has a pretty shape, but it is also easy to preserve. 

Making huabobo is a festival tradition in Shandong. 

It is regarded as a symbol of auspiciousness and people's desire for a better life. 

It was listed as the Shandong provincial intangible cultural heritage in 2009.
